Module 1- Modeling and optimal control of computer virus propagation

Paolo Di Giamberardino and Daniela Iacoviello, DIAG Sapienza

The computer virus spread represents an important issue since all the connected devices are susceptible of being infected. A computer virus is a code that in general can modify normal operations, as well as damage files, and attack other computers. It can be transmitted by downloading files from internet, by using external devices, or by e-mails. The implications of this threat involve the field of Cybersecurity, that has been recently defined as a game between defender and attacker. Since the computers and the internet connection are becoming more and more widespread, a computer virus can disrupt the productivity and cause billions of damages; therefore, a large amount of resources has been dedicated to blocking the spread of viruses. Mathematical modeling and control aspects will be discussed.
