TITLE: Advanced Cryptography in a Quantum World
Abstract:
Cryptography is a success story of theoretical computer science: its rigorous foundations now secure nearly every message, payment, and website in our digital lives. Yet much of the public-key cryptography in use today still relies on problems that a sufficiently large quantum computer could solve, and recent progress in quantum computing has made this concern increasingly pressing. Lattices offer a promising solution: problems based on lattices are believed to be hard even for quantum computers. Moreover, beyond providing replacements for standard primitives, they enable more advanced functionalities, such as computation over encrypted data. In this talk, I will explore how the algebraic structure of lattices makes such functionalities possible, and give an overview of my research on building these advanced tools on well-understood foundations. I will conclude by outlining future research directions.

Bio sketch:
Valerio Cini is a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at Bocconi University. He received his PhD from TU Wien while also working at the Austrian Institute of Technology, and was previously a postdoctoral researcher at NTT Research. His research focuses on lattice-based cryptography, with an emphasis on advanced primitives such as attribute-based encryption and succinct proof systems.
