How can I access the library?

Access to the library is free. No reservation is required for reading rooms seats.

How can I find a book?

To find a book you can use the Online Catalogue or DISCOVERY SAPIENZA. For help, ask to Infodesk staff or librarians.

How can I borrow a book? [How to borrow a book]

After autentication with username and password, you can borrow a book by Catalogo Sapienza, selecting "Richiesta di prestito", or place a reservation if it's [the book is] already on loan. The reservation will be valid for three days from the notice.

How can I obtain a document non available?

 If you're looking for (If you find):

- a book placed in another Library of Sapienza: reserve it from CATALOGO, then go to the library who owns it.

- a book placed in the libraries of other university or italian or foreign institutions: use the InterLibraryLoan service, asking a librarian. The service is not for free.

- a copy of an article of part of book placed in the libraries of other university or italian or foreign institutions: use the Document Delivery (DD) via NILDEafter autentication with username and password.

I can't come and pick up a book I've pre-ordered – can I delegate someone?

Yes, the withdrawal can be done by a different person, but only with a proxy form completed, signed and accompanied by a copy of the document of the delegate. The delegate, on the other hand, will have to show his/her identity document.

How long does a loan last? Can I extend it?

The loan lasts:

- 30 days, extendable 3 times for a total of 21 days, except for any bookings by another user.

- Interlibrary: dependent on the lending library.

Daily consultation is allowed from 09:00 to 16:30.

I have to return a book – can I take it to any library in the System?

No, the return can only be made at our Infodesk or the library office.

What happens if I return a book late?

You will receive reminders by email and, from the fifteenth working day of delay, you will be disabled from the services until the return has been made.

N.B.: You can always check the status of loans and reservations directly from the personal area of the catalog.

How to access electronic resources (books, electronic periodicals, databases, etc.)?

You can directly access Sapienza's electronic resources through the Sapienza Library System.​​​​​​​

Who can I contact if I need help with bibliographic research?

You can book a dedicated reference service in the office, from the librarians.

Can I make photocopies?

Personal documents may not be photocopied. Up to 15% may be copied, in compliance with current copyright legislation, of material not included in the loan.

I'm not a library user – can I access?

Yes. Access to the reading room and to consultation and loan is also allowed to students and users of other universities, subject to registration through the following FORM.

Access to wi-fi is allowed to external users belonging to Eduroam federated entities.

I would like to make a purchase suggestion

You can suggest the purchase of a book directly from the Sapienza catalogue, after accessing the reserved area ("LOGIN"), by clicking on the "Purchase Ideas" icon.

I would like to donate books to the library – what can I do?

If you want to donate a book (new or in excellent condition) you can bring it directly to the office. The library reserves the right to evaluate the proposed materials on the basis of the provisions of art. 5 of the Library Regulations.
