Camil Demetrescu

The DIAG community is mourning the loss of Camil Demetrescu, an outstanding researcher, a passionate teacher and an invaluable member of our Department.

Camil obtained his PhD in Computer Engineering in 2001 at Sapienza University of Rome.
His thesis was awarded by the Italian chapter of the European Association for Theoretical Computer Science.
He was a visiting scientist at the AT&T laboratories (Florham Park, NJ, USA) and at the IT University of Copenhagen in the Theoretical Computer Science group.
He was also a scientific consultant at the Microsoft Research - Silicon Valley laboratories.

His research interests ranged from Theoretical Computer Science to Programming Languages and more recently to Cybersecurity. Notably, he was the co-founder of CyberChallenge.IT, the Italian training program for young students on cybersecurity issues.

Camil has always strongly believed in the importance of the role of university teaching in the training of young people. In all the courses he taught at our university he showed his immense talent and passion.
Talent and passion that over the years have earned him the recognition and admiration of his colleagues and of the numerous students who have been lucky enough to have him as a teacher. We will never forget his sympathy, intelligence, curiosity and his many interests beyond research.

For many members of our Department he was not only an esteemed colleague, but, most of all, a dear and unforgettable friend.
