ethods and applicative scenarios for next-generation cellular telecommunic
ation networksABSTRACT: In the last few decades it has been observed an ev
er-increasing demand for bandwidth\, low-latency\, and broad connectivity.
  5G networks provided enhanced broadband and very-low-latency services\, w
hich should sustain new killer applications like AR/VR\, very-high-resolut
on streaming\, etc. Also other types of services\, requiring lower levels
of QoS\, are still commonly requested by the users\, For all these service
s it is possible to exploit the presence of multiple Radio Access Technolo
gies (RATs) available at the same time. Moreover\, to sustain the economic
development of such newer communication technologies\, new industrial use
cases for 5G/B5G networks have to be identified to drive the design of ne
xt-generation cellular networks towards the definition of new requirements
and services. The research I carried out focuses on the definition of a s
et of control methodologies to support multi-connectivity and convergence
between different RATs\, providing adequate QoE/QoS levels to the final us
ers\, as well as on the exploitation of 5G networks in the smart grid cont
ext\, in particular focusing on the problem of smart charging a fleet of p
lug-in electric vehicles for the provisioning of frequency regulation serv
ices to the electricity grid. BIO: Emanuele De Santis received the PhD in
Automatic Control\, Bioengineering and Operational Research (Curriculum in
Automatic Control) in 2023 at Sapienza University of Rome\, where he rece
ived the Master's Degree in Engineering in Computer Science in 2019 and th
e Bachelor Degree in Computer and Control Engineering in 2017. He is curre
ntly a post-doc research fellow at DIAG. His research focuses on the contr
ol of cellular radio access networks\, even in presence of multiple RATs\,
and on the control of smart grids for the provisioning of regulation serv
 ices to the network.
