DESCRIPTION:How has image processing evolved during the latest decades? How
has AI transformed image processing\, computer vision and the way we thin
k in developing algorithms in these domains? Do these methods and algorith
ms scale up to geometry processing that has to solve similar problems (lik
e denoising\, filtering\, pattern recognition) in the three dimensional an
d often non-Euclidean space? Can we scale modern AI up to geometry process
ing where the domain is not Euclidean but curved. Basics and modern approa
ches will be discussed along with example research efforts and application
 s. Short Bio: Konstantinos Moustakas received the Diploma degree and the P
hD in electrical and computer engineering from the Aristotle University of
  Thessaloniki\, Greece\, in 2003 and 2007 respectively. During 2007-2011 h
e served as a post-doctoral research fellow in the Information Technologie
s Institute\, Centre for Research and Technology Hellas. He is currently a
Professor at the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of the Un
iversity of Patras\, Head of the Visualization and Virtual Reality Group\,
Director of the Wire Communications and Information Technology Laboratory
and Director of the MSc Program on Biomedical Engineering of the Universi
ty of Patras. He serves as an Academic Research Fellow for ISI/Athena rese
arch center. His main research interests include virtual\, augmented and m
 ixed reality\, 3D geometry processing\, haptics\, virtual physiological hu
 man modeling\, information visualization\, physics-based simulations\, com
putational geometry\, computer vision. During the latest years\, he has be
en the (co)author of more than 250 papers in refereed journals\, edited bo
oks\, and international conferences. His research work has received severa
l awards. He serves as a regular reviewer for several technical journals a
nd has participated in more than 23 research and development projects fund
ed by the EC and the Greek Secretariat of Research and Technology\, while
he has served as the coordinator or scientific coordinator in 4 of them. H
e has also been a member of the organizing committee of several internatio
nal conferences. He is a senior member of the IEEE\, the IEEE Computer Soc
 iety and member of Eurographics.
