 à un seminario pubblico venerdì  20 Settembre  2019\, ore 12.00\, presso a
ula A3\, via Ariosto 25 From Decentralized Data Collection to Decentralize
d Data ManagementAbstract:Data Collection by sensors is decentralized in n
ature: a number of wireless sensors organized in a network and distributed
in an area of interest\, collect and deliver data to a gateway that makes
it available for further elaboration. In this domain\, a fundamental prob
lem is the design and implementation of solutions capable to maximize the
lifetime of the data collection process while delivering high data quality
. While  data collection is decentralized\, most of data processing\, and
in particular the distillation of knowledge from the raw data\,  is usuall
y not. Most of the current platforms for data management rely on cloud  in
frastructures based on the dominant centralized client/server architecture
. These platforms have proven their effectiveness\, but require that data
owners trust them. Nowadays\, also thanks to new technologies such as the
blockchain\, it is possible to envision a future in which also data manage
ment will be decentralized\, thus reducing (or even eliminating) the need
of trusted third parties and possibly supporting new forms of P2P decentra
lized data economy. It is now possible to envision a future in which  inst
ead of being the data that reach the algorithms in the server\, algorithms
will reach the data running on the data owner premises. In this talk I wi
ll discuss such vision in some details and I will present some on my resea
 rch work in this direction.

\n\n\nAndrea Vitaletti earned a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from SAPIENZ
A University of Rome in 2002. During his Ph.D. and in the following years
he visited some renowned international research centers such as ETHZ (CH)
and AT&T Research Labs (USA). He is currently Associate professor  in netw
orking and algorithmic topics  at (DIAG) Dipartimento di Ingegneria inform
atica automatica e gestionale Antonio Ruberti University of Rome 'La Sapie
nza'. He has (co-)authored more than 60 papers in journals and internation
al conferences (h-index 26 in Google Scholar)\, mainly in the area of algo
rithms and protocols for wireless and sensor networks and IoT. His current
research interests concern the design and the analysis of efficient IoT s
olutions as well as blockchain technologies. He has been reviewer for seve
ral international conferences and journals and PC  member of some internat
ional conferences. He has been involved in several EU projects as research
er and PI\, and he coordinated the FET OPEN project Pleased.  He has been
member of the Steering Board of ARTEMISIA from 2010 to 2013. He has carrie
d out applied industrial research on wireless and pervasive systems at NTT
DATA labs (formely known as ETNOTEAM ltd)   for 9 years. In 2002 e founde
d the SME WLAB where he was the CTO up to 2016. In 2012 he founded WSENSE
a spin-off of the Univerity of Rome 'La Sapienza' where he was the CTO up
to 2019. The effectiveness of his applied research activity is witnessed b
y 2 patents and 4 patent applications and by some awards: Winner of media
and communication category at Wonderland Contest 2000\, Innovation Prize a
t Simagine 2002\, Bronze Award at Simagine 2004 and Third place award in t
he Start Cup Roma 2006/2007 and winner of Italiacamp 2012. He leads e rese
arch group of 2 Ph.D students\, 1 post Doc  and 5 master students in the W
ireless Sensor Networks lab at DIS. Since 2002 he teaches on network topic
s at SAPIENZA University of Rome and he has supervised more than 80 master
  thesis.\n\n\nkeywords: \n\nBlockchain TechnologiesInternet of ThingsSmart
