Information
integration has been a key problem in both the theory and the practice
of
data management and information system development. Although
there have been many advances in particular aspects of information integration,
such as data integration and data exchange, the main challenges of information integration continue to confront both
academic researchers and practitioners. The
area of service and process integration is becoming of increasing
importance, and faces challenges that have both similarities and
differences with those confronting data integration. Crucial issues in
this area include how to model processes and services, how to represent
the interaction between processes/services and data, how to compose
processes/services out of existing ones in order to meet a given
specification, etc.
Some fellowships were available under the BiCi Leonardo Melandri Program. (see registration).
