From September 2022, I joined the RAINBOW Team as Post-Doc Research Fellow at IRISA, in Rennes, France. You can visit my new personal webpage here.

Marco Ferro - Homepage

I am a Post-Doc Research Fellow at Sapienza University of Rome, in the Department of Computer, Control, and Management Engineering "Antonio Ruberti" (DIAG).

I received the Master Degree in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics in 2015, at Sapienza University of Rome. I spent four months at LIRMM in Montpellier, France, to work on a Master thesis about vision-based navigation of vehicles driven by humanoid robots.

In 2019, I received a Ph.D. in Automatica, Bioingegneria e Ricerca Operativa (ABRO) at Sapienza University of Rome, working with the Robotics research group. The thesis, entitled "Vision-based methods for state estimation and control of robotic systems with application to mobile and surgical robots", fully covered my research areas.

In particular, I dealt with humanoid navigation in cluttered environments, surgical needle pose estimation and dense vision-based active perception methods for Structure-from-Motion problems. The latter topic has been developed during a Visiting Scholarship at IRISA of Rennes, France.

As a sideline, I contributed to develop a surgical simulator in augmented reality for the da Vinci robot system. Visit the Research page for more details.

Currently, my research topics regard interaction force estimation problems for needle insertion procedures in surgical context and robot-assisted localization and positioning of thermal applicators for oncology hyperthermia treatments.
