Nonlinear control systems under sampling and delays Abstract: In this tal
k\, I will present an overview of my research activity on the control of n
onlinear systems under sampling. Albeit most plants evolve continuously ov
er time the designed control laws are implemented through digital devices
and sensors acquire only partial information on the system behavior. In bo
th cases\, those equipments act over discrete-time instants in a synchrono
us or synchronous way so making the necessity of a suitable control design
unavoidable. Those classes of systems are generally referred to as sample
d-data systems in the sense that they combine discrete and continuous-time
evolutions. Roughly speaking\, measures of the output are available only
at sporadic discrete-time instants while the control is piecewise constant
over a fixed time interval (the sampling period). In this context\, based
on the so-called sampled-data equivalent model describing the evolutions
at all sampling instants\, new control laws are proposed for classes of no
nlinear systems based on the new geometrical and physical properties induc
ed by sampling. Then\, the case of dynamics affected by time delays is con
sidered by highlighting the advantages of sampling to overcome several pat
hologies that are typical for purely continuous-time retarded systems. Thu
s\, as a natural outcome\, more recent results and hybrid and nonlinear dy
namics evolving over graphs are given so opening to perspectives. Short Bi

ence (Laurea Magistrale) in Control Engineering from La Sapienza\, Univers
ità di Roma (Italy)\, both Magna cum Laude. In 2015\, he received the doub
le degree for the Master de Recherche en Automatique\, Traitement du Signa
l et des Images (M2R ATSI) through the bilateral agreement STIC&A with Uni
versité Paris-Sud. He received the PhD in System and Control Theory in 201

France) through a joint program with DIAG 'A. Ruberti' (La Sapienza\, Univ
ersità di Roma) under the supervision of Salvatore Monaco and Dorothée Nor
mand-Cyrot. In 2019\, he was recipient of the Premio SIDRA 'Miglior Tesi d
i Dottorato 2019” for the best Italian PhD Thesis in Automatica. In 2019\,
he was also finalist for the Prix des meilleures thèses du GDR MACS et de
la Section Automatique du Club EEA for the best PhD Thesis developed in a
French University. From October 2018 to August 2020\, he was a post-docto
ral fellow (assegnista di ricerca) at DIAG 'A. Ruberti' (La Sapienza\, Uni
versità di Roma). Since September 2020 he has been Assistant Professor at
DIAG 'A. Ruberti' (La Sapienza\, Università di Roma). His research is mai
nly concerned with hybrid systems\, networked systems and nonlinear system
 s under sampling and time-delays.
